01 — The challenge

A position estimate is not the same as trusted navigation.

Autonomous systems often depend on a small number of navigation sources. GNSS may be degraded, denied, unavailable or inconsistent with other navigation sources. When one source is degraded, delayed, spoofed or inconsistent with vehicle behaviour, the system needs more than a replacement coordinate. It needs a defensible assessment of integrity and uncertainty.

NavShield takes GNSS, vision, IMU, odometry, radar and map or terrain information as inputs. Its integrity layer performs source comparison, anomaly detection and confidence assessment to maintain a trusted-state estimate for the vehicle and mission controller.

The platform can then apply an authorised response policy: continue, reduce speed, re-plan, return, hold position or enter a safe stop.
